I have been flirting with an Italian lady for a while now. I think it’s time we meet!

I remember when I was around 17 years old. Me and my childhood friend was riding our mountain bikes in the local woods, dreaming about bigger cubic than just our legs and teenage stamina. We would drop by the nearby gas station down the road and secretly read the annual car and motorcycle magazines. I remember them as being quit pricy, so we never bought them to bring home. Frederik’s parents had and eye on us – so every Christmas these magazines would find their way under the Christmas tree at his house.

This was before internet and cellphones, at least cellphones one could carry in your pocket.

So we would sit together and read and discuss almost every single pice of machinery our eye would feast upon. We could spend hours on looking at the cars and motorcycles dreaming about the freedom one of them could give us if we just had the money for it.

The Ducati section was always what got our attention, at the time it was the Ducati 916 that became the dream bike (still is in some nostalgic way). We promised each other that we would get one each before we turned 30 years old…

Well – I’m now 41, I have had many motorcycles. Right now my garage holds a classic Yamaha XT 500 that I I ride and keep for passing on to my son and a KTM 390 DUKE that’s just being my little fun all round bike while living in India. But I never managed to get my dream Ducati.

Well this might be the year where that childhood dream will become a reality.

For me motorcycles are not about the latest tech, actually it’s about keeping the bike simple and true. Witch is also why I still see my XT 500 as my favourite motorcycle of all time. It’s just nothing more than a dream to ride. No tech, no traction control, ABS, Bluetooth and all that – just kickstart and go.

With that in mind, what would be a simple bike in modern times? There is a lot out there… but one bike has got my attention!

Next week I have booked a test ride and if she wins my heart over I might bring her home.

More in that story very soon.
